MHA Deploys Rooftop Solar Across CAPF Units

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has intensified its clean energy push by deploying rooftop solar systems across Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) premises nationwide. The initiative aims to promote sustainable energy use within government infrastructure while reducing dependence on conventional power sources.

Solar Deployment Across Security Forces

According to official data shared in Parliament, rooftop solar installations have been implemented across multiple CAPF units, including:

  • Assam Rifles – 2,180 kW across 44 locations
  • Border Security Force – 2,895 kW across 8 locations
  • Central Industrial Security Force – 1,990 kW across 4 locations
  • Central Reserve Police Force – 16,348 kW across 42 locations
  • Indo-Tibetan Border Police – 4,092 kW across 13 locations
  • National Security Guard – 1,565 kW across 5 locations
  • Sashastra Seema Bal – 778 kW across 3 locations

These installations collectively contribute to a growing renewable energy footprint across India’s security infrastructure.

Integrated Green Energy Measures

Beyond rooftop solar, the MHA is also promoting other clean energy solutions across CAPF campuses, including:

  • Off-grid solar systems
  • Biogas plants
  • Fuel cells
  • Solar water heaters
  • Solar street lighting

These initiatives aim to create energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable facilities for security forces.

Supporting India’s Clean Energy Goals

The expansion of rooftop solar in CAPF premises aligns with India’s broader strategy to increase renewable energy adoption across public infrastructure. By utilising available rooftop spaces, the government is working to:

  • Reduce carbon emissions
  • Lower electricity costs
  • Improve energy self-reliance

Outlook

The MHA’s initiative reflects a growing trend of integrating renewable energy into government operations. With continued expansion, such projects are expected to play a key role in advancing India’s clean energy transition while promoting sustainability in critical infrastructure.
