ACME Solar Holdings has commissioned a 143 MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Rajasthan, marking a major step toward strengthening India’s renewable energy infrastructure and improving grid reliability. The project is part of the company’s broader plan to develop large-scale energy storage solutions that support the integration of solar and other renewable power sources.
Strengthening Renewable Energy Infrastructure
The battery storage project is being developed in phases through ACME Solar’s subsidiary, with installations located in Pokhran in Jaisalmer district, Rajasthan. The facility forms part of a larger storage initiative designed to enhance grid stability and ensure reliable power supply during peak demand periods.
Battery Energy Storage Systems play a crucial role in renewable energy systems by storing excess electricity generated during periods of high solar output and supplying it when demand rises or generation falls.
Phased Development of the Project
The BESS project is being commissioned gradually to ensure efficient scaling and operational stability. For example, one of the recent phases added 19 MW / 40.5 MWh of storage capacity, bringing the total commissioned capacity of the project to 76 MW / 160.5 MWh, with further phases planned.
The overall project is designed to reach a much larger capacity once all phases are completed, making it one of the significant energy storage developments in the region.
Importance of Battery Storage for Renewable Energy
Energy storage systems are increasingly important as India expands its renewable energy capacity. They help to:
- Balance fluctuations in solar and wind power generation
- Provide electricity during peak demand periods
- Improve grid stability and reliability
- Enable better integration of renewable energy into the power grid
With the rapid expansion of solar power in India, battery storage projects like this one are becoming essential for maintaining a stable and flexible electricity system.
Supporting India’s Clean Energy Goals
ACME Solar continues to expand its portfolio of solar and energy storage projects as India works toward ambitious renewable energy targets. By developing large-scale battery storage infrastructure, the company is helping to ensure that renewable power can be delivered reliably to consumers even when generation levels fluctuate.
The commissioning of the BESS project in Rajasthan demonstrates the growing importance of energy storage technologies in supporting India’s transition to a cleaner and more sustainable power sector.
