CREST Boosts Rooftop Solar Adoption in Chandigarh

The Renewable Energy, Science and Technology Promotion Society (CREST), under the Chandigarh Administration, has intensified efforts to promote rooftop solar power by organising dedicated solar awareness and facilitation camps across the city. The initiative aims to encourage households to shift towards clean energy while benefiting from government-supported solar schemes.

These camps focus on educating residents about the advantages of rooftop solar systems, including reduced electricity bills, long-term energy savings and environmental benefits. CREST officials provide step-by-step guidance on the installation process, vendor selection and available financial incentives, making solar adoption simpler and more transparent for citizens.

A key highlight of the programme is its alignment with the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, which supports residential rooftop solar installations through subsidies and streamlined approvals. At the camps, residents receive assistance with registration, documentation and loan facilitation through participating banks, ensuring hassle-free access to solar energy solutions.

Officials from the Chandigarh Administration have urged residents to actively participate, stressing that rooftop solar power plays a crucial role in meeting the city’s renewable energy targets. Increased adoption not only lowers dependence on conventional power sources but also strengthens Chandigarh’s position as a clean and sustainable urban centre.

CREST, the nodal agency for renewable energy projects in the Union Territory, has been instrumental in implementing solar initiatives on government buildings, public institutions and urban infrastructure. The latest outreach programme reflects its commitment to expanding solar power at the household level and building public awareness around renewable technologies.

Through these awareness camps, CREST aims to bridge the gap between policy and public participation, enabling more citizens to transition towards solar energy and contribute to a greener future for Chandigarh.
